![]() ![]() liesl is a nasty piece of work at times but koemi didn’t deserve to be the on the brunt of that and especially not when she’d taken the time to stay back and keep liesl company during this photoshoot. ![]() this seems to reference netizens pegging her as a maneater due to her string of unaddressed relationship rumors. she starts off as the ideal, demure girlfriend, but grows more and more unstable as time passes. The release comes along side a music video for the title track, manic pixie dream girl, in which heart invites a man into her home and begins a romantic relationship with him. the song climaxes to her confession that neither image are particularly correct, but she’ll let them keep speculating on her true nature, again, for her entertainment. The subtlety is dropped on the final track, netizens, which shows liesl discussing her personality back and forth with herself from two different perspectives a fans and a anti’s. a known victim of constant criticism for netizens, particularly regarding her romantic life- shrouded in rumour and mystery from debut, heart paints herself as a foxlike heart breaker, set on toying with men’s emotions for her own entertainment. within the three self-written tracks on the appropriately named ‘how to break hearts and get away with murder’, the star addresses her public image with varying levels of subtlety. Today marks the solo debut of creep’s heart. HOW TO BREAK HEARTS AND GET AWAY WITH MURDER. ![]() it’s very clear that not only is heart and helen’s close friendship as real as can be, but questioning it is the greatest offence. Over all, the girls mock the recent scandal with a balanced level of humour and anger. after preceding her verse with the appropriate royal fanfare, helen takes to ditching her innocent and passive image to directly mention the ‘c-word’ incident- and how she doesn’t care. if that wasn’t powerful enough, creep’s self proclaimed resident princess (not to mention heart’s alleged bullying victim) gets in on the action from the get go. Proudly comparing herself to kim yewon (’informal in here, yo’ she drawls, after name checking the former idol) is only the tip of the iceberg, as heart also brings up her father’s words against her. serving as a hype builder to the official release next month, poundcake, a stripped back yet powerful english-language song with strong hip-hop influence, is a bombastic reminder that heart, wholly and unapologetically, doesn’t give a fuck. Having been teasing her upcoming second mini album all month, it’s to the surprise of many that heart has dropped a single out of nowhere ahead of schedule. it seems that heart and helen are just fine. Still campy, fiercely protective of each other, and making jokes about their vaginas. however, helen slips in a punchline about her ‘pussy’ as her chosen note to end on. her verse almost finishes with a cutting line that highlights how this has all just been about pitting two women who have a strong, unbreakable bond with one another against each other. granted the last word of the whole album, helen almost wraps things up by defending her friend- that no bullying occurs and this entire scandal has scapegoated her. Track five, the prereleased ‘poundcake’, features helen- the member cast as heart’s supposed bullying victim. no matter the scandal, she will turn it into money. ![]() heart will never hide away in reflection and silence, 2. but it hammers home all the messages she’s been putting out since her very first dating scandal kickstarted the constant slew of rumors and hatred. The title-track accepts heart’s new villain role willingly and readily. “i rose up from the dead” she claims- and who can deny the validity of that statement? in amongst floods of snake comments and #heartisoverparty tags, heart did not allow herself to be ‘cancelled’ rather than scrapping or pushing back her scheduled comeback, she dyed and chopped her iconic long hair, and rebranded and rerecored with only a month to spare, making the era revolve all around her new super-villain image. In the midst of the most turbulent period her career has ever faced, heart has released her second mini album ‘medusa.’ the musical embodiment of the singer’s biting wit, unapologetic rebellion and raw, over-emotional vulnerability, medusa sees (at surface level) heart mock, defend against and reflect on her recent bullying scandal. ![]()
